MINNEOLA CITY COUNCIL MEETS                                    June 29, 2023

The Minneola City Council met in continued regular session June 29, 2023, in the Civic Connection. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., with the following Council members present: Marvin Jensen, Dustin Laudick, Chad Kirk, and Debbie Buckley. Mayor Carol Sibley presided.

Joel Krosschell, EBH Engineering, presented a drawing to the Council showing the possible layout for a subdivision by Cottonwood Street. The current drawing showed a total of 39 lots, 11 lots from Cherry Street to Cottonwood Street and 28 lots from Cottonwood Street to the tree pit road. Lots from Cherry to Cottonwood would be approximately 100’ x 115’, and lots from Cottonwood to the tree pit would be approximately 100’ x 140’. Some items discussed were whether to add a street on the south end or stop at cul-de-sacs, street widths, sewer drainage, and what to do with Apple Street. It was agreed to stop the new streets with cul-de-sacs and add houses around the east cul-de-sac which will add lots, have the alleys continue on around, take out Apple Street on the new road and put the extra feet to the south end lots around the cul-de-sac, revising new streets to 36’ wide, and new houses will have to have a sewer lift in their basements. The Council agreed to look at other city’s lot costs before pricing. Joel will plan to have the revised drawing back for the July Council meeting.

Joel then presented a drawing for the lots south of Appleton Apartments. It was agreed to place an easement between the houses and Appleton, but not have an alley. It was also agreed to have the sewer go on west towards Poplar Street for future houses.

Brenda presented information about Cereal Malt Beverage licenses and Liquor licenses. Marvin made a motion to approve Ordinance 2023-02:

  • expanding CMB sales to Sundays from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm;
  • expanding liquor sales to Sundays, opening and closing times, and which holidays stores are to be closed;
  • revising liquor store restrictions on locations.

Dustin seconded, motion passed 3/1. The Ordinance will be published on July 6 and July 13, 2023.

The Council reviewed the Petition for Condemnation for 103 Maple Street.
